VAN KLEI, Daniel
Three Paper Birch
Mixed Media / Canvas
60x48"
While dynamic in form and colour, Van Klei’s work exhibits stillness and purity.
Daniel studies the way light interacts with nature to create unique colours in his paintings. He is fascinated by how light filters through the canopy of a forest, or penetrates the surface of water reflecting off the bottom to create intense complex colours. The thick grooved texture of his paintings are developed with substantial layers of acrylic paint.
In other areas, multiple layers of paint are applied to create exceptional fields of colour. His paintings often incorporate metallic elements which creates a rich visual interest. Layer upon layer they are painted to create fields of colour and texture with an intension to evoke a positive emotional response.
Embracing the mediative process of painting, Van Klei allows space for the paint to evolved on the canvas.
He believes one mark on a canvas determines where the next one will go.
