Born in Goderich, Ontario, J. Hamilton studied visual art at Queen's University earning a BFA in 2003. She worked as a jewelry designer, in public art and independent publishing, always maintaining a studio practice. She often ran events and spaces that fuse art and spirituality. Hamilton also trained as a theologian earning a B.Th. at McGill in 2015 and she worked on the frontline during the pandemic providing spiritual care in hospitals.
Hamilton's paintings are visionary. Her mystical explorations of energetic spaces are informed by her spiritual path as well as those she meets along the Way. "Rainbow light space" is an interior space, outer space, and a shared space. The fractal nature of Hamilton's intuitive mark making shows the energetic template underlying material existence. At times geometric and orderly while expressing chaos and freedom, the paintings themselves take on and emit energy, working with the viewer to facilitate healing, introspection, and grace. Hamilton uses the fluid medium of acrylic paint and ink to enter the mysteries of life, death and what lies beyond.
